Sunday 12th March 2017 saw the London Adult Figure Skating Club’s first Gala. When the club was initially formed, the idea of a Gala was discussed — fast forward 3 years and the Club is very proud to have hosted the first Gala in aid of St Mungo’s!
St Mungo’s is the leading homelessness charity, providing a bed and support for more than 2,600 people every single night, who are either homeless or at risk.
The committee chose St Mungo’s due to our previous on-ice activity with them in the form of their woolly hat day in 2016. As skaters, we choose to skate in the cold, no one should have to sleep in the cold.
There was a fantastic line up of skaters performing including a number of solo performances, with 3 duets and 1 quartet! All the skaters performed beautifully, thoroughly entertaining the crowd.
We would go on for pages if we mentioned all 20 performances but highlights included Pete’s Superman striptease, Lisa’s crowd pleasing Cuban Pete, Lulu and David’s 2017 pairs programme, the Hairspray quartet of Ashleigh, Clare, Alison and Helen, Jane’s Ice from Russia solo, Melody and Kerry’s Blades of Glory rendition, and Lulu’s energetic, closing piece to Cabaret/Sweet Charity.
A huge thank you to all the skaters, volunteers and the supportive spectators for making the 2017 Gala the success that it was. We have raised just over £400 for St Mungo’s!
